Do You Need a Touch of Da Vinci to Your Home?

Believe it or not, there are actually certain shades of specific colors that can speed up the selling process of your home or even class up the value. There are certain colors that will appeal to different crowds of people and can effect who comes to see your house. For those of you who are purchasing a home, or even building a new construction home and you're in the military or don't plan on living in your home long, you may want to sincerely take these tips into consideration.

Yellows: these are the best shades to paint the exterior of your home, of course using your best judgement for accent colors; yellows are the safest color to choose. However, any color yellow with an undertone of green can come off as sickly and become unappealing to any buyer and any color yellow with an undertone of orange can be perceived as cheap. In selecting your shades of yellow try to stick with a pale tone of sunny yellow. Psychologically, studies show that yellows cause a warm and "home-y" feeling to be given off at first glance. They can appeal to both classes of purchasers and generally match any neighborhoods color scheme. Which brings me to the next tip:

Location, Location, Location: If you are moving into a subdivision where there are a plethora of colors on houses, try to match or blend in with the color scheme, but make your home stand out from the crowd. Subtle and steady wins the race in this case. Do not try to be so different that it devalues the entire neighborhood in their choices of colors for the exteriors of their homes. It can turn your offer into an absolute disaster as well as call for some neighborhood gossip!

Selling Season: Be sure to take into consideration the time of year you will be selling your house because not only does the exterior color matter, but so does the interior color. Try to choose warmer colors during the colder seasons and cooler colors during warm seasons. Also try to base the color of your room on the purpose of the room. For example, the kitchen should be "scrambled-egg" yellow, "celery" green, or "coffee-grind" browns can feel very natural. It makes a world of a difference in the duration time of selling your home!
